    setting a table properly

Setting a table properly can make a big impression on your guests and set the tone for your event. It doesn’t matter if you’re hosting a formal dinner party or a casual lunch, there are certain basics that apply to all tables. Whether you’re using a traditional table setting or something a little more modern, it’s important to follow the basic principles of etiquette to ensure your guests have a pleasant dining experience.

    Lay The Foundation

The first step when setting the table is to lay the foundation. Start by choosing a tablecloth that fits the occasion. If you’re hosting a formal dinner, a white linen tablecloth is a classic choice that will never go out of style. If you’re having a casual gathering, you can choose a patterned cloth in a variety of colors and prints.

Once you’ve chosen a tablecloth, you need to choose the right dinnerware. If you’re using a formal table setting, you’ll need a dinner plate, salad plate, bread plate, and cup and saucer for each place setting. If you’re going for a more casual look, you can opt for a dinner plate, salad plate, and bowl. If you’re having a buffet-style dinner, you can use just a dinner plate.

    Set The Table

Once your tablecloth and dinnerware are in place, it’s time to set the table. Start by placing the dinner plate in the center of the setting. Next, place the salad plate above the dinner plate. The bread plate should be placed to the left of the dinner plate, and the cup and saucer or bowl should be placed to the right.

Next, place the flatware in the order it will be used. The knife should be placed on the right side of the plate with the blade facing inwards. The fork should be placed on the left side of the plate, and the spoon should be placed to the right of the knife. If you’re having a formal dinner, you may also want to place a dessert fork and spoon above the plate.

    Add The Finishing Touches

Once the foundation and the table have been set, it’s time to add the finishing touches. Place a napkin on the left side of the plate and a butter knife on the bread plate. If you’re using a formal table setting, you can also place a charger plate beneath the dinner plate and a water glass to the right of the cup and saucer.

Finally, add a few decorative elements to the table. Candles, flowers, and greenery are all great options that will add a special touch to the table. Just remember to keep the decorations simple and elegant.
